Background: The National Museum of Women in the Arts is located in Washington, DC, and focuses on championing women artists and advocating for gender equity in the art world. The museum's permanent collection includes thousands of works spanning several centuries, representing artists from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I reimagined the branding system for NMWA.

Logo Redesign

Concept: The design is driven by five power words—feminine, artistic, spotlight, progressive, and connected—shaping the visual language throughout.

Target Audience: NMWA’s audience includes art enthusiasts, museum members, donors, educators, and advocates for women in the arts. They value cultural institutions that promote diversity, progressive values, and artistic excellence, and recognize the ongoing underrepresentation of women artists in museums worldwide.

Design Process: I began by researching the museum and identified five key attributes to guide the design: feminine, artistic, spotlight, progressive, and connected. These words informed my choices in the logo, color palette, typography, and badge design. Together, these elements shape a cohesive identity that elevates women in the arts

Design Solution: The solution creates a cohesive brand system that balances diversity with unity. The circular badge symbolizes connection and spotlight, working at any scale while keeping the focus on women artists through the joined "W" and "A" letterforms. The blue-green color palette honors women's suffrage history—green symbolized hope in the movement—while creating a contemporary, museum-appropriate identity that feels both artistic and institutional.
